Finansforbundet: Very hard to understand Danske Bank terminations
Danske Bank has decided to shed 420 jobs, 230 of which are in Denmark. According to Finansforbundet, it is very hard to understand the rationale behind such an extensive round of layoffs.
Danske Bank has decided to shed 420 jobs across the organisation, of which 230 are in Denmark. This is part of a comprehensive round of layoffs at the bank.
"At a time when the bank is delivering very solid financial results, it's inconceivable that the bank finds it necessary to lay off that many people. Finansforbundet at Danske Bank wants what's best for the bank, but we don't believe numerous layoffs will bring the bank success," says Kirsten Ebbe Brich, Branch President of Finansforbundet at Danske Bank, and goes on:
"It hits hardest on those who are terminated. We are ready to help all our members with support and advice.”
The union representatives and Finansforbundet at Danske Bank are fully focused on the members affected, all of whom will have a representative to accompany them throughout the process, just as they will be offered information meetings and legal advice.
Attention to high work pressure and change processes
The terminations come at a time when change and work pressure are weighing heavily at the bank.
"As the workload is already very heavy at Danske Bank, we'll focus sharply on ensuring that tasks are listed in order of priority. "Today's terminations should not result in the remaining employees having to work even harder," says Kirsten Ebbe Brich.
The terminations affect several parts of the organisation and are, for example, explained by new technology.
"Employees in this sector are extremely flexible and used to change. It's very much about converting new technology into business, and in combination with a heavy workload, this places a great burden on employees. Therefore, it's difficult to understand the rationale behind the management decision. All parts of Finansforbundet are focused on those affected, but layoffs on this scale are worrying for the bank and its employees alike," says Dorrit Brandt, President of Finansforbundet.
