An evening of insight and networking
There was a good turnout for the Meet&Greet event that Internationals in Finance recently invited to at the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority. Here, Deputy Director General Rikke-Louise Ørum Petersen and Head of Division Heidi Ravnholt gave presentations on money laundering and talked about the Authority's working methods and strategy.
It was an interesting and rewarding event, say two participants.

Great benefit – academically and socially
Alessandro Mercuri, Lead Risk Expert at Nordea:
"I was keen to learn more about the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority's working methods – and the speakers were really good. In fact, I took so much home with me that I regret that I didn't participate in the previous Meet&Greet event, with Danmarks Nationalbank."
"The opportunity to network and mingle was also really good. The set-up with mixed tables in the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority's canteen made it very accessible and easy to meet like-minded people from other banks and exchange experiences."
"I couldn't help but notice that there were no security people. I felt a little bad that it was the deputy director herself who had to escort us out in small groups, in the middle of her own trying to get something to eat! You are so relaxed in Scandinavia, it would never have happened in London or Milan."
"On the way to the metro, I went along and talked to a woman from Danske Bank, who also gave me her name – but I don't remember that anymore. I think it would be good if those who agree with it were included in a list of participants. Then you could see afterwards who was involved and thus make it even easier to network afterwards and connect on LinkedIn as well."
"I am definitely interested in participating again, if, for example, there is an event in one of the ministries that are most relevant to the financial sector."
Exciting insights
Sisse Filskov, AML Controller – Merkur Andelskasse:
"When there is supervision in the banks, many employees are involved more or less peripherally around the world. Therefore, it was exciting to get a better insight into how they operate with different types of supervision in the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority. That they have various themes and sometimes go through several banks, other times their effort is more concentrated."
"We also heard about how they are on a journey with AI and are testing different tools. It was very recognizable, we are all doing that in our different companies. We heard about their strategy and got a sense of what we can expect going forward."
"It also gave us the opportunity to learn how they work with money laundering and sparring opportunities in other banks, which we in the small and medium-sized banks have to a lesser extent on a daily basis. I sat at a table with employees from Nordea, who have a completely different everyday life and are more specialized, while I sit with a much broader palette of tasks."
"My tasks are very varied, a mix of operations and development and a lot of maintenance of business procedures and systems, check that everything works as intended. And then, of course, there are special surveys of customers that for one reason or another need to be looked at more closely. It is very much a social task that I think is meaningful to be allowed to work with."
"There is always news to keep up to date with in my field. That's why I'm very interested when there is an event like the one at the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority, which provides an insight that is a little different and breaks up everyday life."
Demystify public institutions
Ugne Ragauskaite Petersen, working in Danske Bank and member of the IiF SteerCo as well as one of the organizers, says:
“I think the "Internationals in Finance" (IiF) network serves as a gateway for foreign professionals to immerse themselves in Danish culture and connect with fellow finance industry professionals, whether they work in the same or different institutions.
It offers numerous opportunities to spend time with like-minded individuals at various industry or social events that we organize throughout the year.
If you're keen to do more than just attend our events and want to help shape the activities, we’d love for you to apply to join our IiF SteerCo.” Applications can be send to andol@danskekreds.dk or christine.asmussen@nordea.com.
She continues, “Meet&Greet sprang from a desire to demystify public institutions and show them off from a laid-back, approachable angle to all Finansforbundet’s members. This event series draws both international and Danish attendees, making it the perfect place for everyone to mingle and break down some of those barriers internationals might encounter in Scandinavian culture.”
