Finansforbundet: AI does not replace employees – but requires a strategic focus on skills
A major survey among Nordic leaders suggests that while artificial intelligence is going to change jobs, it will not replace employees. This makes it clear that a strategic skills-based effort is needed, finds Finansforbundet.
A report by Digital Dogme presents the results of a major survey of artificial intelligence in the Nordic labour market. 1,200 Nordic business leaders across the public and private sectors participated in the survey.
‘The results make it clear that AI is going to impact our labour markets and our job profiles to an even higher degree, but leaders don’t expect their employees to be replaced by AI. In fact, those who expect AI to increase the number of workplaces are in the majority’, says Steen Lund Olsen, Vice President of Finansforbundet.
So, Nordic leaders do not generally expect that generative AI is going to impact their staffing levels significantly. Among the surveyed organisations, 11% expect generative AI to lead to higher staffing levels, while only 6% expect to see staff reductions.
The report concludes that digital skills should primarily be strengthened via internal training and courses in order to meet the new skills needs.
‘We will see a huge need to keep a strategic focus on creating the skills that will be in demand. And businesses and society must rise to this common challenge. We need to invest in the resources that the employees already possess, and it’s positive to see that the leaders recognise this. Now, we must take this a step further’, says Steen Lund Olsen.
The survey points, in particular, to the so-called digital integrators. These are employees who are skilled in the use of new technologies and capable of incorporating them into new products and business concepts, but who do not design digital solutions.
The partners behind the survey are Digital Dogme, Netcompany, Microsoft, the ADD-project, DI Digital, EY, HK Denmark and Finansforbundet.
