The presentation provides a current insight into how diplomacy works in practice, and how international relations affect economic decisions and markets. Focus will be placed on the interaction between politics, regulation and finance, as well as on the mechanisms that drive cooperation and conflict between countries. Through concrete examples, it will be illustrated how global trends shape the conditions for the financial sector.
A lecture with Rufus Gifford is much more than a journey through international politics. It is a story about building bridges between cultures, creating relations and understanding the strength of diversity. He shares experiences on how to communicate effectively in a globalized world, and how courage, openness and authenticity can change the way we solve challenges.
The audience will gain a personal and engaging insight into his time as ambassador, enriched with stories from the White House, meetings with world leaders and everyday life as a diplomat in Denmark.
The presentation will be moderated by Birgitte Borup, Berlingske’s international commentator. She writes mainly about American politics, culture and the spirit of the times, which is constantly changing. Previously, she has among other roles been foreign editor and culture editor at Berlingske and editor at DR and TV 2. She has also lived and worked as a journalist in New York.

Rufus Gifford is a former United States Ambassador to Denmark and has held central roles in American politics and business. He is known for his work with leadership, communication and social responsibility, as well as for his perspectives on hope as a driving force in leadership.
