See the list: Inspiration for your pay negotiations

There are other things at stake than pay when you negotiate your contract. And it may be somewhat easier to add terms already provided by the employer to other employees to your individual contract.

Many people enter into negotiations or renegotiations of their individual contract with just one number in their heads. But many other things will be of value to you over time.

Finansforbundet has reviewed a vast number of employment contracts for employees on individual contracts in companies representing more than 30,000 of the employees in the sector to get a more precise picture of all of the employees' pay and employment terms.   In addition to the collective agreements, this provides inspiration for a number of other benefits and terms that you may try to negotiate into your contract.

The review of the individual contracts in the financial sector indicates that contract employees are typically entitled to the following collective agreement terms:

  • Employer’s pension contribution
  • Days of holiday secured by collective agreements (sixth week of holiday)
  • Extra (bank) days off with pay (time off on the Friday after Ascension Day, Constitution Day, Christmas Eve (24 December) and New Year’s Eve (31 December)
  • Care days (but the majority are paid as part of their salary instead of five days off with pay a year)
  • Great Prayer Day compensation
  • Annual salary review
  • Increased holiday supplement (often 3.25%)
  • Paid health, dental and group life insurance
  • Full pay in connection with child illness, maternity/paternity leave and leave to care for closely related persons

Terms sometimes or rarely seen in the individual contracts:

  • Pay adjustment (annual right)
  • Medical certificate
  • Part-time work for parents with children
  • Senior part-time employment
  • Severance pay (extra)
  • Mitigation measures

Use the collective agreement of your company to your advantage

How to discover whether the company's collective agreement contains benefits you would like to have:

Find out which collective agreement applies to you. There is the standard collective agreement (STOK), which applies to a vast number of financial sector companies, and company collective agreements (VOKs) that cover one single company or a group/several companies.

If you do not have the collective agreement applicable to the company with which you have a contract, your union representative may help you, you may find it on the website of Finansforbundet Collective agreement or you may contact us if you are a member.

As a member of Finansforbundet, it is very important that you send us your contract for review before signing it; similarly, it is a good idea to talk to your local union representative.
