See the list: these banks have merged in the past ten years

The financial sector never sleeps.

With the news this Monday that Sydbank, Arbejdernes Landsbank and Vestjysk Bank will merge under the name of AL Sydbank, yet another banking marriage can be added to the series of mergers that have swept over the financial sector in 2025.

A month ago, the final pieces were placed in a Funen bank puzzle that has been going on since May, when Nordfyns Bank and Middelfart Sparekasse concluded a merger agreement which is still awaiting the parties' decision-making meetings and regulatory approval.

Earlier this year, the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority approved one of the major agreements, i.e. that of Nykredit's acquisition of Spar Nord.

Sparekassen Danmark and Sparekassen Djursland also joined forces in 2025 with the latter as the little brother, while Arbejdernes Landsbank announced the acquisition of Pensam Bank earlier this year.
